The Mister
World contest is an international beauty pageant for men, and has been
held since 1996. This pageant is run by Julia Morley, as Chairperson
and CEO of the Miss World Organization, the same organizer of the
Miss World pageant. Traditionally, Mister World lives in London during his
reign.
The Mister
World pageant is a biennial event, but was carried out only ten times to date,
since its founding. Generally, it is a three-week long international
competition, in which delegates are judged for their physical and mental
endurance, based on different fast-track events such as extreme sports, fashion
modeling, talent, interviews, and multimedia, before the sole winner will be
declared as “the world’s most desirable man.”
Before we begin with our Annual Winners List,
please note this is a list of Mister World winners alone, without consideration
for runner-up placements. We are only taking into account, the pageant winner,
the pageant year, the country of origin, the continent the country belongs to,
the place the contest was held, and the number of countries who participated
that year.
That said, we begin with 1996. Tom Nuyens of Belgium is the first man ever
to win the title of Mister World. The contest was held in Istanbul, Turkey and
fifty one countries joined that year.
The following contest in 1998, Sandro Finoglio of
Venezuela succeeded to the throne. The
pageant was held in Grandola, Portugal, and forty three countries participated.
The year 2000, Ignacio Kliche of Uruguay was
named winner. The contest was held in Perthshire, Scotland with thirty two
countries participating.
In 2003, Gustavo Gianetti of Brazil won the
title. The contest was held in London, England and thirty eight countries
competed.
2007 was the year of Juan Garcia Postigo of Spain. The contest was held in Sanya, China with
fifty six competing countries.
In 2010 Kamal Ibrahim took the title for Ireland.
The contest was held in Incheon, South Korea with a record seventy four
countries competing.
In 2012, Franciscoc Escobar of Colombia snagged
title. The contest was also held in Kent, England with forty eight
participating countries.
The next pageant year 2014, Niklas Pedersen of
Denmark was declared winner. The contest took place in Torbay, England, this
time with forty six participants.
2016, was the year Rohit Khandelwal clinched the
title for India. The pageant was held in Southport, England, forty six
countries competed.
Finally in 2019, England's Jack Heslewood was
adjudged the winner. It was held in Manila, Philippines, with seventy two
official candidates.
As is customary, we crunched the numbers, and
present the results in a bar chart for visualization and ease of
understanding. Now, let’s see what those
data revealed.
As of 2020, the Mister World title has been
awarded ten times since its inception in 1996. Ten countries have likewise
received the title. As you can see we have a flat vertical chart, as no country
exceeded another in number of wins.
We have divided the countries into five
continents namely Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania. Using the data
set from 1996 to 2020, it appears that all winners came from three continents,
which are Asia, Americas and Europe. Of the ten winners, five are from Europe,
four from Americas, and one from Asia. We have yet to see a winner representing
Africa and Oceania.
This chart illustrates that the Mister World
pageant, has a bend towards European candidates. There is this natural bend for
a pageant, to choose winners from the continent where the pageant originates
from. This holds true for Men Universe
Model pageant, and Mister International pageant, which we featured in our earlier
posts. If you haven’t yet, do check them
out in our previous blog posts.
